Grimsby Town hitman Michael Reddy announced his return to goalscoring form with a fantastic double against Kidderminster on Saturday.

Ready told the Telegraph, "The gaffer told us to get three points and try to achieve a mid-table finish.

"There was a lot of talk about finishing in the top seven at the start of the season, but it hasn't quite worked out that way.

"I think this year has been all about consolidation and an opportunity to build a team and start moving upwards.

"The lads were really up for it and played well, even though the pitch wasn't at its best.

"We scored first, which was important. It has sometimes been the other way round this season - like at Boston - and that hasn't helped us.

"Then we got a two-goal cushion and started to play confidently."

Reddy continued: "For my first goal, Craney (Tony Crane) won a ball in the air. I ran from the half-way line, received the ball, and just tucked it away in the corner.

"Thomas Pinault played a great ball to me for my second.

"I took a touch, hit it early and it went in the top corner.

"I thought we were pretty solid throughout.

"The defence was solid and we had that cushion. The lads did well and we will be looking to end the season on a high now against Southend."

Meanwhile, young striker Nick Hegarty was delighted to make his debut, coming on as a second-half substitute.

He said: "It was good because I didn't just come on for a few minutes, I had a chance to get a feel for it.

"I thought I did alright, and the things I didn't do well I will learn from.

"It would be nice if I could play some part against Southend, and then start staking a claim for next season.

"I know I have got to take my chances after seeing some of my mates getting released last week - Liam Parker, Chris Hyam and Joe Lightowler."
